saturday 1 – did a few jobs around the house

sunday 2 – taking older ones and get the impression am making progress

monday 3 – tag der Einheit – day off but had to do a bit of work for the saudi project

still reading the 2 books about the meat industry and seeing this article from georg monbiot, not a million miles from where I am at the moment, but for slightly different reasons:

Stock Answer

tuesday 4 – getting up early to get girls up and out of the house early for school
working at home/office, enabled complicated shopping route via rewe, bio shop, the kebab shop for tomorrow’s meal and back via backmayr’s for bread

fried spring rolls which wilomena had made in a pan with sonnenblümenöl, together with baked vegetables in the oven, slightly covered in olive oil and thyme

wednesday 5 – back to starting guitar course, had done a salad for girls and left them to warm borek, zucchini pflanzerl, falafel in the oven

thursday 6 – katie back, also spon arrives for the pogorausch festival

meet up with spon at hauptbahnhof, then onto augustiner on kaufingerstr. for beer, haxenbaur for eats, finishing at the hofbrauhaus where we get talking to some young americans and after the 2 girls got intercepted on the was past the band and had to dance, one came back and asked me for another dance, which i managed without stumbling, as we’d had some beer by this time

friday 7 – day off, meet spon at main station crobag near blumenladen, then we head off to see gasteig wander along down the river isar then down to deutsches museum and spend some time there since it was raining

walked further on to paulanerbrauhaus for late lunch around 2.30pm, then we visit the flat before going back to hauptbahnhof and i travel on to collect 10km run tickets at olympiahalle, but queue is too late so abort it and travel home for meal with katie and eve, but too tired to meet up with spon in the evening

saturday 8 – again meet spon at crobag and we go to olympiapark to look around and also to pick up my entry stuff for the 10km run tomorrow

we walk around the olympic stadium, quite a good circular walk all around then go to ayingerbrau for lunch

most importantly set up the uk tv for katie and girls to watch strictly

go along to pogorausch in the evening and catch a few bands before leaving hirschgarten just before 11 and get a great connection with the bob at donnerbergerbrücke to get home for 11.20
old fashioned ideas (bassist playing chords and singing like lemmy), eastside boys (sex pistols at the time of the swindle album) and couple of oik bands, amazed there was no trouble in the mosh of waist-naked skins and a few punks messing around, then dirt box disco, a pastiche of a band dressed variously to maybe represent, kiss, angus from ac/dc, with the lead singer a bowie pierrot in sleepsuit, good fun and the most prefessional players, again with the obligatory gibson les paul

sunday 9 – up a bit late and off for the run, left a little tight and got there just in time

slow, plodding, narrow start from coubertinplatz and was hard to get going with some resistance from the body to pushing it, so no records:
Split time min/km
5 km 00:25:58 05:12
netto 00:52:30 05:19
26th in M55 out of 97

went out in evening for meal at christiane’s with jeff and greta, was a lovely evening

monday 10 – working at GBR meeting up with jose, tom and marko

watching a programme on TV about this project used for a wedding:
http://therealjunkfoodproject.org/

tuesday 11 – go to office

wednesday 12 – working at home, weather has turned colder last couple of days, got angry text from eve during guitar course, since i hadn’t fixed her bike, blown up the tires etc. perfectly justified, regret # 1002

thursday 13 – go to office, meet up with mArtin and reinhold, ute’s ausstand which was pleasant

friday 14 – travelling to köln for axel’s party
http://www.naturzentrum-eifel.de/unterkuenfte/taverne.html
meet up with Steve and Christine on the platform in Cologne with moments to spare before the train out to Nettersheim

Lovely party for axel’s 50th with plenty of old faces to get re-acquainted with
Brita invents a game where we all dress up as band members of 80s and 90s groups then “perform” a song in front of everyone
axel and steve were in abba!

saturday 15 – morning and lunchtime tidying up from the party and chatting, then chris gives us a lift into Cologne for both parties to catch the respective trains, and giving us enough time to view the Dom and visit the Früh Kölschbrauerei nearby

reading when we get back and then watching strictly where the girls are happily ensconsed on the sofa

friday 21 – nice chat at breakfast with eve, she mentioned also the slight accident in chemistry where they had to evacuate due to a bromine experiment going wrong

wednesday 26 – interesting story about an old people’ home from:

The Best Advice for Loving Those Who ‘Feel It All’

also checking the book review, this quote:
“Although we’ve been led to believe that our fondest memories are made in the grand occasions of life, in reality, they happen when we pause in the ordinary, mundane moments of a busy day. The most meaningful life experiences don’t happen in the ‘when,’ they happen in the ‘now.'”
hands free life, rachel macy stafford

then from a review of The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, “the days are long but the years are short” (an old saying she curiously takes credit for)

then couple of interesting quotes in a meeting with Akini and Martin:
“more people involved, more obstacles they put in the way of progress”
“wer viel fragt, kriegt viel irre” ie. ask too much, get lot of nonsense or confusion.

thursday 27, düsseldorf – early flight and major hiccup since get in wrong compartment when the train is separated in neufahrn, although the carriages we were in were both unmarked and also according to a regular commuter, the right ones

we flag down a bus in freising who turns round to pick up around 20 people who’d made the same mistake

get through ok and make flight no problem, meeting up with reinhold for our meeting, which went better than we’d expected

friday 28 – Rabi Lord Saks had an interesting thought for the day, covering many topics, “the more we know, the more we become aware of what we don’t know” etc. since recently scientists discovered that there are 10x as many galaxies as we’d previously thought

also an interesting article about how agendas are being set, even in something as innocuous as search engines:

also later added after the trump victory, how we are in post-truth politics:

some interesting comments on those celebrating 20 years and offering advice for those interested to learn more about Chinese culture:

Chinese philosopher Confucius says it all: “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

Translation of the Confucian Analects
How the philosopher Tsang daily examined himself, to guard against his being guilty of any imposition.
The philosopher Tsang (a student of Confucius) said, “I daily examine myself on three points:
— whether, in transacting business for others, I may have been not faithful/fair;
— whether, in intercourse with friends, I may have been not sincere;
— whether I may have not mastered and practiced the right values I have learnt.”

Having said all that, also an article in Die Welt kompakt from yesterday was mentioning how Sigmar Gabriel was worried about the tax advantages from their government that chinese companies have in taking over foreign firms, particularly in the light of the recent takeovers of kuka the robotics firm and aixtron the chipmaker; and how the same government makes it impossible for foreign firms to takeover chinese companies. Fears on the side of European competitors that the takeovers:
“dass die Chinesen mit dem einmal in Westen erworbenen Wissen den Europäern wiederum einen ruinösen Wettbewerb liefern – subventioniert wiederum mit chinesischen Steuergeldern.”

band practice where scott tells us he is going back to the US at the end of the year

go for couple of beers at the italian bar that graham and i have been frequenting, scott talks about rod stewart’s version of forever young and how Warren Zevon is one of Scott’s favorites of all time:

sunday 30 – some inspiration from Bruce Springsteen:
