thursday 3 – last full day and finishing off the RJ45 sockets around the house finally completing this long-delayed project!

have meal in again running down the food stocks

friday 4 – get call in the night that john can’t find his hotel – i must have confused him in the day so that he thought yesterday was his departure – he’d taken an afternoon train with long delays at doncaster he’d said then shared a taxi with two others from leeds to skipton

saturday 5 – flying back today, probably how i’d heard the phone ringing in the night as we had to get up early

consolidating some news and going through an article about sally hawkins in “the lost king” where she notes how her father as a children’s author and how extremely private he was although he had to read from his work to children and some nice quotes:

“.. to be an artist you have to tap into something quite deep. It’s in the work itself where you thrive.” and back to her father with his working regime sought uninterrupted quiet in which to concentrate, “.. aware of how my father went within. He needed that, that intense focus.”

She’s the same having to “noise-cancel everyone out.”
After acting projects she has a ritual to rid herself of a character and get back to herself, no details given on what this is:

thursday 10 – finally get to go swimming after such a long break of recent excuses – notes to avoid dipping and going too deep with the arms and too scrunched up in the core:
shoulders square on and stable, gespannt
arm pull back very shallow under water

good exercise for me fo crawl legs – mix with one of breast stroke legs then it makes a little more tolerable

friday 11 – go to lazzat-e-hind for evening meal then back to listen to an interesting AQ from Bath and the comments from Lord Deben (aka John Gummer, yes he who advised his daughter to eat beefburgers during the BSE crisis) made a fabulous Brexit “rant” at around 41:30 to 42:40 in:

saturday 12 – parkrun and get below 27 mins for a new PB

zoom call but just john and myself

we watch the film “percy against monsanto (goliath)” with christopher walken playing percy schmeisser taking on monsanto in the late 90s – well first being sued by them for allegedly stealing the patented seeds which actually were dropped on his ground out of a sack by a passing farmer – he was a seed collector so he saw their potential – too cut a long story short, he wins his case but has to give the seeds back .. but the net result is that all canadian farmers decide not to have any GMO crops – which presumably presages the possibility of a trade deal with the EU .. have to look into that
some wiki info but not fully corroborated in the film

So interesting realising during this wonderful discussion how at home in the English suburbs my father recited (albeit Fitzgerald’s translation) the Rubaiyat of Khayyam to me as a child and how those rhythms an ideas were imbued in me too!

sunday 27 – go to thorsten’s concert in haar
