sunday 1 – morning worship was from scargill house in the dales:

scargillmovement.org

there was a poem about watching cows and a having a cuppa – the yorkshire equivalent to watching the mist over the water and sipping whiskey in Iona.

took guitar lesson with franci which seemed to go ok, the others seem to have lost interest

monday 2 – up at 4.30am to get the train to Essen for the training which i’m running there with Mile:

after training, took a short walk around the centre near Kennedyplatz enjoying the evening sun and a bite to eat at BIO basics

myWPEditImage Image

Saw a couple of young lads with carrying small hollister bags with a swagger, as if the body langauge is saying: ‘now every girl will fall for me!’

myWPEditImage Image

Then saw couple of older ladies coming out of primark with bigger bags, well past their prime as a nice contrast – oh the games the marketeers play to get us to buy their stuff and, in the case of Hollister/A+F, often at hugely inflated prices!

tuesday 3 – long day running the training, then train back, just listened to music, too tired to work, some relaxing music including what i listened to twice:

Tina Turner, Dechen Shak-Dagsay, Regula Curti, Sawani Shende-Sathaye: LOVE WITHIN – BEYOND – lovely relaxing melodies and words

Rebekka Bakken – Little Drop Of Poison – she has a Tom Waits style

wednesday 4 – Stitches taken out of the left leg at last!

Went to physio and feeling like a pro-footballer with all the massaging (lymphdrainage) and conditioning that’s going on, Patrick the physio recommends starting off slowly getting back into, he tested me on a 10min cycle to check no swelling occured. wish he would give me exercises like the other physio did, guess it might be too early yet, the physio’s web site:

http://www.physio-gemmeke.de/

sat on bed with kats and eve, who was getting ready for her music exam (well she would be asked out in class, since she missed the exam due to illness) – went thru her music notes and the major and minor keys now start to make sense, how they put it in her notes:

major – half-tone at 3-4 and 7-8minor – half-tone at 2-3 and 5-6

Um and ah’d about going to the Paul Weller concert at Circus Krone, but decided to treat myself and what a treat it was – 3 encores!

The support band, Rhonda from Hamburg were good with a very 60s, beat sound, reminscent of Amy Winehouse at times.

Weller came on with 2 percussionists, a keyboardist, bassist and stevie craddock from ocean colour scene on lead guitar

Started off with a number on a 12 string guitar then changed to telecaster for a few, later on changing to that red one with the wings on it, not sure what make that is

One of the songs in opening section (Come on/let’s go?) had a nice refrain like that in absolute beginners (pa-pa-pa-oom), did Weller write that for Bowie to sing or has he just sampled it? anyway it was good

lot of newer songs which i know from his other concerts but don’t have – sea spray is a classic, ferreting about here’s the set list:

http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/paul-weller/2014/circus-krone-munich-germany-3bc03808.html

The first 10 songs were just amazing, fast and rhythmic, i like it when it gets heavier, seems to fit his style better, still the style council stuff is mediocre for me, ever changing moods etc there was a great surprise in hearing tales from the river bank, a real classic

He ended the first set with “Start!”, but for me, mostly new material as mentioned.

Then 2 mellow encores, including “The Keeper” (tribute to ronnie lane) to kickoff the first encore and one with the “shalala” refrain

At the end, a most surprising thing – about half the people had exited the hall, particularly from the standing area and i was still sitting due to my knee, you noticed behind the stage, the curtains opened and 6 figures reappeared silhouetted and they came back on to play “The Changingman” … i think even stars like weller are still in awe of the circus krone venue as it has so much history, they are also loathe to just leave it at that but want to savour it as long as they can!

The 2 percussionists were good, it’s clear that decent bands have a rock-solid foundation on the drums and bass. weller played a few songs on the keyboard far left behind the bassist and although i read he’d given up booze, he’s still the only performer i see in munich who has a fag on stage in blatant disregard of the law, altho tonight he was being at least surreptitious about it, back to audience or to the side, as if someone had mentioned to him to watch out, otherwise swigging healthily from a bottle of water, looking sharp and moving with agility – he drives thru one song after another as if he wants to pack in as many as possible – in that respect he is good value for the money and he likes to support upcoming relatively “local” talent which is laudable.

All in all, progression from a 3 piece to 6 piece playing the circus krone to a fairly packed standing area, probably about 1000 altogether, a top gig!

friday 6 – girls going to film night at kids club and see “lion king”, “rango” – a film which saby liked about water shortages in the desert, actually near las vegas so a bit like “over the hedge/ab durch die hecke”

working late until 8pm when katie calls for tea, we share a pizza and bottle of wine, then listen to any questions

saturday 7 – go to Woerners for breakfast and get a plum seat by the window overlooking the square and old rathaus

myWPEditImage Image

we pick up girls, they had seen “tintenherz” in the morning

myWPEditImage Image

sunday 8 – prepare chicoree salad for 30th birthday party and pentecost service at church, well-attended

go along with emily over with her husband and daughter to visit christine and rainer over in putzbrunn

monday 9, schliersee – lovely day out at schliersee, took the 2 wetsuits to try out, an L and XL size, the latter slightly easier

get back and bring 2 tortoises in which Eve is looking after and which she has delegated to me today

myWPEditImage Image

tuesday 10, munich then skipton – working in the morning, then hastily pack and get train out to flughafen, big queues at baggage drop then a gate change and an email to send at work, all a bit hectic but made it

lovely flight over, admiring the sky and cloud formations as well as the wind turbines on the north sea, both on the german and english sides

get back and stay at mum’s

wednesday 11, skipton – working at number 11 but staying at abbeyfield

thursday 12, skipton – same again, getting professional work out the way before the private work starts

friday 13, skipton – scaffolding arrives and set it up with James just to test how it works to get to one level and get used to it

saturday 14, skipton – set up the second tier and reach the guttering to clear out on the left hand side at the front

it’s gala day, have fish and chip with a fishcake with Josh, from the Newmarket St chippy, since the Westmoreland one is closed

Margaret and Josh go onto the Gala field for the afternoon

do some painting, then John arrives around 3.15pm – mix up meeting up with Margaret

we go on the Gala field at night to see Paisley Rehab.

sunday 15, skipton – more work on the scaffolding so that the left hand side is finished, process was:

brush down surfaces and wall, scrape away loose paint from the existing paintwork on the guttering and lintels

sand down, prime where necessary, then 2 coats of black paint

monday 16, skipton – working away quite happily on the scaffolding at the front above the door, when a yellow car stopped and a lady started talking to me about having to have a license for this type of work

it was the highways agency, so i got down kept my cool and she proposed that she would turn a blind eye, but I had to finish off and take it all down by close of play today.

She gave the details for obtaining a license, mind you they check distance for pedestrians, which was ok just in my case she said, also about adequate insurance etc. here the details:

The end result was that, although keeping calm and getting a compromise which was acceptable for me, I ended up being very nervous up there for the rest of the day, “rushing” to get it done in time.

Now I understand why putting pressure on and using fear, increases a body’s stress levels and actually results in worse performance and an anxious environment, such as I can imagine in the english school system currently – it was a nice lesson in practical psychology.

When James got back from work, we took down the scaffolding and set up one tier at the back, since James couldn’t stay due to pool tournament – in fact his pool engagements were driving most of the timescales for the project.

tuesday 17, skipton – bit busy at work so not much chance to do work on the scaffolding

wednesday 18, skipton – finished off the gloss on the skirting and doors

Set up the scaffolding fully with 2 tiers at the back on the right hand side

Went to see Auntie Jean who is in hospital having fallen and broken 3 ribs, she is a lot better situation than how Margaret had described it, walking about with her zimmer frame – all of us except celine went over and she was in a chatty mood, talking about Burnley and asking john and me questions

got back and went to watch the film “Downhill” at the plaza with john, it was about a group of 4 friends who are all about to turn 50, going on a coast-to-coast hike from st bees to robin hoods bay

thursday 19, skipton – james took me to barlick so that i could get the early bus to clitheroe, got 07:05 and arrived about 07:30 observed the following:

front path very overgrown, garden full of weeds and thistles – tore off some of the weeds using a glove i found in the garage and bent the thistle stems over

pile of mail – went through and left a pile to recycle, took a couple of unimportant letters away

otherwise house looking ok, back gate was open, a lock there would be a good idea as would some kind of solution to stop the front garden and path getting so overgrown – use of a local gardener or cover it with something?

turned off the electricity and water, meter reading were:

electricity: 16753

gas: 6087.4

went back via abbeyfields since the bus was taking school children and went down gargrave road, saw a house being done up, here an interesting firm who was doing the loft conversion:

www.roofspace-conversions.co.uk

finished off a coat of emulsion on the walls and ceiling of the back bedroom

watching football at mum’s with john in the evening, we sank a few cans of kronenburg 1664, rooney eventually got his first goal in the world cup finals, suarez put 2 past us – just rewards for all the slating he gets in the press over here about biting an ear etc. it’s looking desperate for England to progress now – desperate just about sums up our performance, it was all a bit too frantic and nervous from both sides, with the difference being who could capitalise on a counter-attack

walking back after the game through town and there are cones and traffic lights up the high street, preparing for the tour de france, main action was a young lad laying and smoothing tarmac then going over it with a roller, surrounded by a group of about 6 managers looking on and chatting

friday 20, skipton – finished off on the right hand side so that by the time james was back from work, we were able to dismantle and re-erect the scaffolding on the left hand side for the final quarter of the house

saturday 21, skipton – more jobs to complete then for lunch, had fish and chips at number 11 with margaret, james and josh, we split 2 fish and chips, a sausage (there were no fishcakes!) and a bag of scraps

had meal at herriots, mum and i had a salad, joshua the usual sausages, beans and mash

had game of pool round at the craven with james and john

sunday 22, skipton – got up early as usual and painted the stand pipe at the front for final coat then cleared guttering again and put on 2 coats on

james arrived so was able to delegate quite a bit, so went inside and finished the 3rd coat on the walls of the back bedroom

we finally took the scaffolding down with john helping at around 3pm then went up to see mum with the final shop via tescos to leave mum with:

6x 0.75l bottles of fruit juice

5l UHT milk

2x 80s boxes of tea

6 loaves of bread

16 yogurts

1kg butter

2x 500g cornflakes

2x jars of marmelade

cans: 4 fruit salads, 6 soups

2x packs of wipes

2x boxes of washing powder, non-bio and coloured

full bottle of fairy

dropbox with 10x tenners

however:

low on bin liners, particularly for mums bathroom

then went swimming – john still has a reasonable stroke and he did 34 lengths

joshua tagged along until james picked him up in the car near the park, then john and i went back to mums to finish off the microwave pasta meals john had bought

monday 23, skipton then munich – went up town briefly to look at the window decorations for the tour de france, got talking to the guy doing the windows on Nero’s/Robert de Niro’s:

myWPEditImage Image

went to school with margaret and josh:

myWPEditImage Image

then frantic last minute rush around remaining jobs (and some work!):

primed kitchen window ready for james to complete later when he goes over the putty at the front

shc came to pick up the scaffolding

margaret and i went to station to meet up with john via tescos to get crumpets, muffins, scotch pancakes and potato cakes as well as the usual tea and fray bentos pies

john was there and we sat around to chat before getting the 13:16 train to leeds where john met up with his friend richard

good train journey to manchester and through security to buy a few books for girls

nice flight on the window side again with good pictures of the cloud formations

myWPEditImage Image

sat next to french girl going over to work for a few days in munich, she was living and working in the uk and played various sports

took sbahn to the city, sharing a partner card with 3 russian girls who had been struggling to buy a ticket, meant i only needed to pay 5€ plus use a couple of stamps on the streifenkarte

tuesday 24 – went out to GBR to work with jose, but extremely tired and went to bed before 9pm

wednesday 25 – worked at home, still pretty tired, went to bed around 9.30pm

thursday 26 – out to GBR again then the germany v us match which they won 1 v 0

friday 27 – Saby in a good mood going to school for her last “abschlussprüfung”, had taken yesterday off due to other exams going on, so was feeling reasonably confident, although she mentions that there is also the possibility of oral exams where marks between the school and state exams are at variance or there is a chance to improve a mark or orient up or down when between marks

saturday 28 – lazy day, messing about with the yamaha a-520 amplifier brought back from uk and strained my back in the process lugging it up and downstairs

sunday 29 – helped katie in sunday school, playing guitar
