monday 24 – watched the film florence fiddler joiner with merryl streep and hugh grant in it, quite amusing
tuesday 25 – captain matthew webb first channel swimmer said, “nothing great is easy”
what does it mean to jill who is planning to swim? i want to do something great
connections – to people in the club, to the location of dover where she lives
mantra – i’m strong, it feels right, i can do this, eg. part of phelps’ mantra is “i feel comfortable”
posting a comment in the forum:
“I like the way you describe your demons Jill, as I got them in an open water swim recently – and I’m talking only 500m of crawl! They gave me a moment of panic (“you haven’t trained enough for this, you’ve lost your stamina, you can’t do it” etc). and this influenced me to change to breast stroke and really struggle through the swim part of a triathlon I was taking part in.”
W. Timothy Gallwey goes some way to addressing this topic in his books on “The Inner Game of …” (work, tennis, etc).
I’m going to reflect on what she says: that when you think you’ve given you’re all, it’s really only about 40%; also how you head off the demons in your head before you even start: you make a conscious decision, then just go for it and the demons are dead in the water as it were.
friday 28 – band practice, still at friedenskirche
saturday 29 – doing a few jobs including the lights in eve’s room
sunday 30 – cycle to church and for sunday school we take all the children to the playground for games then on to an icecream
later lounge about on the sofa, then go on a 35 minute run to complete my channel challenge at work, just passing the target when combining with the cycling I’ve been doing
