monday 1 – went swimming for first time in the year, still focusing on stable body position and firm/flat not rounded shoulders, so just doing breast full stroke and backstroke legs with arms stretched far forward
discussed with sabs and everyone about the tents, but it fell a bit flat and ended up in stalemate
tuesday 2 – katie going out with new friend alice2 in evening for carmina burana and bolero, so i was cooking pasta with pesto and doing a salad
managed to upset eve in the kitchen who wanted me to test her on english vocab, so now annoyed both girls in 2 days through generally being tired and not myself i suppose
walked past sabs room and heard them giggling as she had got sabs to test her, so perhaps there was a side benefit if it drew them closer
wednesday 3, nürnberg – took 7.20 train and chatted with eve because she had her last exam today
got to nürnberg for 8.30 then along to office for meetings, left for 3.30 train, which was in any case late, got back 5pm and made it ok for guitar lesson
still continuing blues and improvisation was again very good, getting a lot from it
thursday 4 – flying to london in the evening for a few days with john
flight was late and made the mistake of going into london and then catching a night bus out to harrow, arriving around 2.30am – would have been better getting out at west hampstead and getting a night bus or taxi, or simply as katie suggested, booking a hotel in london for the night whilst waiting for the flight, instead of checking how to get to harrow, since when i did try and reserve a hotel from st pancras sat on a bench with the station deserted, all travelodge offered was a night that day’s evening and not the night passing!
friday 5, london – working out of city office and went out for lunch towards east end and past spitalfields market to a place full of warehouses and fast food caravans, was stuart’s last day as leaving to join an IOT startup:

sunday 7, london – went to church with john and sung the lovely hymn, ‘God of grace and Go of glory’ with the lines:
“Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
Lest we miss thy Kingdom goal.”
bit of a stressed journey back from luton with a 5 step journey to get there since the tube from harrow and wealdstone wasn’t running, meant a bus, walk and train east to intercept the train from london, would have been better going into town this time or simply booking BA!
listening to songs of praise with katie and there was a lovely interview with aled jones and father brian darcy from einskillen who used to do “pause for thought” on terry wogan’s radio shows years ago
he mentioned about a message from brendan graham who wrote “you raise me up” – who said that terry brought community to religion via “pause for thought”
children in need was his way of being good and religious in life without being good and religious, as he wasn’t religious although brought up by jesuits
healthy guilt – be guilty enough to make you be better than you are, not guilt that paralyses, but guilt that encourages you to be something else
he was in a sense a catholic man in his tastes who saw the good in everyone, who built his life on love, a perfection of what god wants from people
monday 8 – fell out with eve in the evening trying to explain about banking scams and the change from robbing banks to cybercrime internet fraud, bodged the explanation and just got angry in the end, really tired from the weekend, lack of sleep and stress
wednesday 10 – on-site at gbr with tom and marko
in evening, playing games in the evening as eve was bored having spent the day on devices as she said, so we had a game of memory, happy families and charades
thursday 11 – we went to shostakowisch concert at gasteig, leningrad symphony, then went to italian round the corner from there with chris and frank and caught up with news
saturday 13 – went to bauhaus to get shelves having failed to find the ones we had for tv cabinet, somehow must have recycled them, find a shade which fits more or less
after tea, fixing up hifi in the tv cabinet and moving hifi cabinet downstairs,
sunday 14 – we exchanged nice cards to one another
was an interesting sermon from alec clelland talking about the collision of sundays, valentine sunday of consumption and indulgence with the first sunday of lent and of moderation and abstinence
2/3rd give up alcohol, 1/3rd meat, very few these days for religious grounds, mostly health/vanity; the self-control it brings is good, we should perhaps instead decide to devote time to meditation and inward growth
went swimming, managed 42 lengths, 10 back crawl legs, rest breast to try and get more stability before starting crawl again
listening to music and browsing guardian:
http://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/feb/14/economics-viewpoint-baby-boomers-generation-x-generation-rent-gig-economy
interesting analysis in the comments from soundofthesuburbs
friday 19 – got tent from sportscheck having researched at both this shop and globetrotter:
https://www.globetrotter.de/beratung/kaufberatung/zelte-und-zubehoer/
https://www.globetrotter.de/beratung/produktpflege/zelte/
got the Marmot Tungsten 4P in the end:

https://www.globetrotter.de/shop/marmot-tungsten-4p-251827-green-shadow-moss
for the core inner area, an undersheet of 220cm x 200cm (better 230cm) would suffice
monday 22 – discussing with kats and sabs about what I’d read about buzzfeed and the use of what trends and gets shared as a business model for selling to advertizers, a bit like google’s with what items are being searched for assisting google to market to advertizers, we discussed about manipulation and behavioural science, ending that I’d got into that decent elviral anti-schuppen shampoo from a trial pack staying in a hotel, still it only cost €1.65!
went for swim, 44l, 12 legs, then picked up eve’s contact lenses
getting started again with the new machine and an interesting IT reminder:
We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:
#1) Respect the privacy of others.
#2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.
sabs is in sad mood having got her brace and really struggling with eating
tuesday 23 – watched the film ‘jobs’ with sabs, which is the less well-known nerdy film about the apple founder; some inspiring quotes about striving to be different not just better and not being content with ‘fine’ and mediocre, but giving your all and being committed to the company and working to achieve real change
wednesday 24 – had good swim, again 44l but this time total of 16 legs done:
10 breast, 8 backst legs, 6 breast, 4 legs, 4 breast, 2 legs, 2 breast, 2 legs, 2 finish off, working out well plodding up and down on my back and thinking about blues guitar!
went for beers, well soft drinks with allan and christian at killians, very full, lucky that a lady was leaving to get a table
thursday 25 – seeing a couple of good ideas on the beeb:

and also being healthy in the distracted world (since I didn’t sleep well last night, due to reading the ipad until 10.30pm):

friday 26 – we take sbahn at 1.30pm for trip to uk to celebrate nick’s birthday, having snacks at greggs at the airport, picking up the hyundai i3 car and arriving at the designated place for around 9pm as everyone was finishing off evening meal but still in good time to chat and eat with everyone
saturday 27 – on breakfast duty which was good fun laying the table, putting out the toasters and making endless pots of coffee (caff/decaff) and tea
go for walk late morning after seeing john and rosie, who had flown in from switzerland for the half-day!
sunday 28 – reading in the guardian magazine about the various new offices springing up in London, from the planned Google campus, to Second Home, inspired from a cambridge research lab (spawning a nobel prize), which are all designed to improve the number of spontaneous “collisions” between people from different areas and thus enhance collaboration and creativity
monday 29 – extra day, but have forgotten what i did with it!
