wednesday 1 – at home working on the proposal submission for cdp, then go to guitar where we practice some blues including mixed arrangements, with one improvising, one following a blues scheme and 2 doing chords (raising/lowering) with simple strumming
thursday 2 – andrzej reciting some mike oldfield lyrics, which he recommends, ommadawn
mad dash to go swimming after working most of the day on cdp, see eve revising as ever and leave her alone
reasonable swim session, then back to work again till 2am with long call kari, andrzej, mark and sajin had dropped off due to 3 hour time advance
after finished locked out so had to get eve and kats out of bed to let me in
friday 3 – achieved our document feedback with a minute to go 12:59, my this whole experience has been a tumult of stress and emotions and what am i learning?
we have a short band practice, downstairs, because of celebration weekend for martin luther and john wesley which they were preparing upstairs
saturday 4 – went to watch lala land with vanda and reno, for the early showing, which felt a bit like saturday morning cinema as a kid. we ate at a thai place under stacchus and ended up at galeria cafe at marienplatz, a lovely hideaway with 1€ decaf coffee topups and no pressure to move on, bliss
sunday 5 – taking sunday school, we covered empathic listening from 7 habits, more or less, kind of went ok
monday 6 – didn’t sleep so well since worrying about getting up for the first day in new office in garching! greeted with hugs from p+p who were already there in dirndl, 7.30am and a certain dan, since 7.15am!
there is a weisswurst frühstuck and plenty of folks there, josh, rainer, michael as well as the usuals
tuesday 7 – again up at 6am to go via the ubahn back at new office, a touch later, trying the quiet area desks, same issues with getting monitors to work, since they are VGAs with a VGA to HDMI converter cable!
had lunch at the cafe in edeka, since i’d forgotten my canteen card for the freiraum
wednesday 8 – again early start out to garching and now the office is quietening down a little
went for lunch with dan at the freiraum, having sorted out the problem of the card being recognised
had guitar lesson at 6pm and this was quite strenuous since the tiredness was obviously creeping up and we were doing mostly the spanish pieces which needed to be fast and responsive to the note reading
thursday 9 – working at home, gave short training to thorsten, then dashed for the sbahn out to the airport for another visit, due to the next day’s activity
briefly took a look at bright street, then had cheese and onion pie, chips and beans at the swan and royal, listening to some very cheesy 70s/80s music
staying at rose and crown across the way 01200 442 848
friday 10 – went round to bright st again and checked on progress, geoff and the plasterer for the bathroom were there
geoff’s music is blaring out and i think he listens to radio cheese as well, had to leave around 10 as i couldn’t stand it any longer!
in any case needed to get changed and ready to go over to skipton, which i did via manor house, just missing david and staying to feed mabel for her lunch, she was not too hungry, due to david having plied her with chocolates whilst he was here – so one of the carer’s let me in on the secret
left about 1pm to go over to skipton for silas’ funeral, parked up at herriots, 01756 792781, since was staying there, then wandered down to waltonwrays, waiting around and catching the end of the previous funeral with “this dance will last forever” blaring out as the mourners came out, one wonders in listening to all the other funerals taking place, just what gems one would hear.
pete and family turn up, then all the others, steve, brian, spon with respective better halves; the rest of pete’s family of course
nice service, vicar of holy trinity really brings out the character of silas as we mates all sit on the third row
the “final” curtain is drawn to the strains of “my way” and we all file out, stand around and chat, then resume at herriots for afternoon tea, a few beers starting for me at least at 5pm
it’s difficult to get a table, here is full, places up town so 6 of us, pete and family, plus cousin and wife recamp to the craven heifer, with a nice curry for me then sticky toffee pudding
saturday 11 – nip up town for some money and tea from b&m, which has the cheapest in town
breakfast at 8.30, kippers then a few jobs to do for me – merrits to investigate splashback for the kitchen:
http://www.rollingsglass.co.uk/glass-splashbacks-for-kitchens.html
then onto auntie jeans, who wasn’t in, but where i had to drop some money for the work at broughton church at grandad and grandma’s grave; then onto mum’s patiently feeding her, only to ignore her signs of actually being pretty full or was it the tablets angela gave her, as all 3 courses re-appear, which having had the occasion at the hospital with silas, i am much better able to respond to
end up late at the last part of the day, to meet up with steve and pete again, to watch the slaughter of a 37 v 0 victory over stourbridge
visit auntie elizabeth afterwards, who is getting all excited to watch the england v wales match
go back to start cleaning the bath out with wipes from sainsburys
sunday 12 – up early to measure out the splashback for the kitchen, get rid of the cardboard and polystyrene packaging in the backyard to the top, then to really go to town to get the bath spotless, using more wipes and the fügen entferner, which works well
drop key at mr latter’s then drive to drop off car and catch the plane
monday 13 – messing around at supper over funny handshakes at school, sabs was discussing about the “lachs” shake and invented the spider; we thought up and showed the roll-in and chop, although i later hurt kats by performing it too hard
tuesday 14 – out at garching today and met up with valerio who works behind where i have positioned myself
dan away ill today
went for lunch with a group of us, then on to the bmw cafe

thursday 16 –
listening to radio 4 and interrupted Katie’s listening about Dr Andrew Wakefield who had been discredited by suggesting a link between the MMR vaccine and autism
The Times and a film called “Vacs”
Dr Robert Grimes was against him, claiming he had massaged statistics
katie leave to the uk to progress the renovations along
friday 17 – band practice and we do a couple of songs from papa, since katie is away of course
saturday 18 – start after lunch on the ikea jobs lined up for the weekend – sab’s table and eve’s bed, we complete sab’s table, having first waxed it with beeswax, she really enjoyed it and i remember as i was getting frustrated since one hole just hadn’t been drilled properly, sabs saying, well einstein said our job wasn’t to understand the world but just to get by in it
sunday 19 – after church and a little rest and something to eat, restart and complete the bed
katie back late and girls stay up to greet her and we have a late chat
monday 20 – get up and out to the office
discussing at supper about boyfriends and how it is so difficult for real feelings to get expressed
tuesday 21 – working at home
went to klenze info abend on abitur so that i understand it better to support both girls now as they struggle through the system, but it does seem to offer a multitude of options
went for swim for half an hour after the presentation
wednesday 22 – again working at home to prepare for next week
thursday 23 – woke with terrible dizziness and hadn’t slept well, checking time and having mobile phone in the bedroom
managed to subside and was ok during the day, even contemplating going swimming after the planned flight to the uk was cancelled due to bad weather in manchester, ie. i had made it out to the airport and back, which defies belief, when i think how i felt the next day
friday 24 – again terrible dizziness, only this time it didnt clear up and was forced to just do what was necessary at work, then retire to bed to rest
saturday 25 – managed to get to emergency HNO (ear, nose, throat) doctor at elisenhof near hauptbahnhof with katie helping me and after the doctor checked me over, including throwing me first left, then right, he diagnosed that the problem was again what i’d had before:
benigner paroxysmaler lagerungsschwindel (rechts)
benign spasmodic orientation dizziness
messed about most of the day again, getting it in the neck for being late back from rewe with the wine, as eve had got back and was hungry for supper!
spent most of the time reading, had started “night train to lisbon” by pascal mercier on friday
sunday 26 – stayed at home with eve who has a cold, then she goes out in the evening to meet her friends on the stemmerwiesn.
have a game of chess with sabs, who challenges me, we have an interesting duell, starting without a queen and overlooking a couple of mishaps to make it interesting, it ended up 2 queens against 1, then queen and king against king.
monday 27 – still going through updating the document and webex from reinhold, he mentions an interesting saying:
der Weg ist das Ziel / the way is the goal
reminds me of the book, which i still haven’t read:
The Obstacle Is the Way: The Timeless Art of Turning Trials into Triumph, ryan holiday
